At St. Mary's - St. Alphonsus Regional Catholic School, our mission is to teach the Gospel by nurturing and educating our children. We believe that every child is a unique individual, loved by God and worthy of our respect and care. We also strive to honor the parents of our children and to acknowledge that a "team spirit" works best to benefit these beautiful and impressionable young souls. With that in mind, academic excellence, emotional development, and spiritual formation are approached in a meaningful and sacred way. We, as Catholic school educators, are called to "Teach as Jesus did." Therefore, we strive to integrate the Gospel message throughout the curriculum.

Gavilan Hills Academy in Gilroy has a strong academic orientation. It is our belief that children learn best when challenged. Accordingly, students are grouped in classes (referred to as Forms) by ability rather than chronological age. Class sizes are limited so that each student's progress can be closely monitored. Student's grouping sometimes changes with each academic subject so students can receive accelerated, average, or remedial instruction. While it is not necessarily unusual for some students to vary as much as two traditional grade levels between their academic/age level, they are regrouped for social and physical activities during the school day.
