### Overall Situation:
- Academically very strong. Although there are no AP courses, some of their Advanced courses are consistent with AP content and difficulty, and many students take AP exams after completing them.
- 9th graders take Humanities, a distinctive feature of the school, which integrates English, History, and other subjects. Students generally find it very challenging because classroom discussions, assignments, and exams involve comparisons between English and History, requiring students to fully grasp knowledge points from two or more subjects and be adept at critical thinking and comparison.
- There are two paths for mathematics: one categorizes the math system by knowledge points, studying one domain each year (Algebra 1 — Geometry — Algebra 2 and Trigonometry — Pre-Calculus — Calculus); the other merges knowledge points from different domains for integrated learning. Integrated Math 1 covers fundamental algebra and geometry, Integrated Math 2 is a further study of algebra and geometry, Integrated Math 3 covers Honors Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Pre-Calculus, and Integrated Math 4 is Calculus. Students generally find Integrated Math more difficult because the connections between knowledge points are not organically tight, requiring students to have strong mathematical foundations and self-study abilities to adapt.
### Academic Strengths/Features:
- Senior Inquiry Project: An independent research project for 12th-grade students, culminating in the presentation of their research findings, which can be academic papers, performances, exhibitions, etc.
- Advanced Science Courses: For 11th and 12th graders, the range of choices is very broad, and the content studied is cutting-edge, especially in biology and marine science, fully utilizing the school's geographical advantages.
- Interdisciplinary Courses: The school offers interesting interdisciplinary courses, such as 'American Wilderness' combining English and Science, and 'WWII, Science and Technology' combining History and Science, allowing students to comprehensively learn knowledge from two or more different fields, their interactions, and relationships, broadening students' perspectives and horizons.
### Shangxue Mingde Student Feedback:
- The most difficult subject in 9th grade is Humanities, with a lot of writing, and teachers are generally very strict with grading.
- In some math classes, teachers directly use exercise books to teach, making the knowledge points relatively scattered and demanding a high level of foundational knowledge and self-study ability from students.
