Concord Academy (CA) is a school I really love. For me, Concord Academy is not only highly ranked but also very balanced in terms of culture, social life, academics, and psychological well-being. The school provides unlimited academic support and a rich variety of course options, with almost every student having a different schedule. Students who are passionate about academics and have well-rounded development in all aspects will receive more support here.

In terms of cultural heritage, CA approaches it from both hardware and software aspects, integrating culture into every aspect of daily life. The chapel is the heart and soul of CA; it can be used by students for quiet reflection, gatherings, and coming-of-age ceremonies, and also for alumni speeches and weddings. This not only promotes student integration but also strengthens campus unity.

Regarding academic development, the school has long replaced AP courses with unlimited and broad-ranging courses, with the total number of courses reaching over 200+. The goal is to cultivate students' lifelong learning abilities.

For community building, the school offers freshmen a residential experience program called "CARE." Freshmen can live in classmates' homes, have dinner with their CARE families at the beginning of the academic year, and also visit CARE homes, allowing all boarding students to participate in and enjoy local life.

In terms of emotional support, the school has a psychological counseling center. The center staff includes a psychologist, a full-time social worker, and a part-time licensed mental health counselor, all of whom can provide impromptu assessments and consultations. In addition to them, advisors, teachers, and coaches also participate in tracking students' physical and mental well-being.

5. Senior Projects: CA students have the opportunity to apply for Senior Projects during their final spring semester at Concord Academy. These full-credit specialized courses, designed and proposed by students themselves and approved by a faculty committee, enable seniors to undertake independent study courses through interdisciplinary or experiential disciplines. All projects include a faculty advisor as a consultant, and may also include external advisors, such as a documentary on the construction of the Quabbin Reservoir, building an urban garden for a women's shelter, or exploring the plays of Samuel Beckett from a mathematical perspective.

6. Sports Facilities: Concord Academy's Moriarty Athletic Campus spans 13.5 acres and is home to the school's thriving competitive sports program – a place for building character, teamwork, and spirit. The Moriarty Athletic Campus features a traditional field for players and spectators, with neat, laser-level natural grass – among New England's best for soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey – as well as baseball fields, cross-country trails, and six hard USTA tennis courts. The on-site facility, equipped with a fireplace, training room, and a beautiful wrap-around porch, provides a gathering place for families, friends, and spectators.

1. Academic Excellence: In 2017, the average SAT score was 1440/1600, and the average ACT score was 32/36.

2. Location: Located in the historic town of Concord, USA. This famous town, in addition to Concord, also hosts another top boarding school, Middlesex, with the two schools being less than 3 miles apart. The town is also only about 20 miles from Boston, and you can reach downtown Boston directly by train and then subway, making transportation very convenient. Concord's campus is situated in the town center, integrated with the town, so the surrounding area is quite convenient, with various small shops, Starbucks, and supermarkets all within easy walking distance.

3. Arts: The school has a very strong arts program. In performing arts alone, the school offers nearly 40 courses, and in visual arts, there are over 30 studio art courses. In addition to common performing arts courses like drama, dance, and vocal music, the school also offers special art courses such as photography, film, crafts, media art, sculpture, and architecture. The school also requires all students to complete a certain number of credits in art courses. The school hosts nearly 20 performances on campus each year.

4. Student-Teacher Relationship: This is Concord's greatest advantage. Almost all teachers, and even the head of school, can be addressed by their first name. Teachers are very concerned about whether students are learning and understanding the class content, and they are always willing to answer questions before, during, or after class. Moreover, the learning atmosphere is good, everyone is very positive and proactive, advocating a love for learning rather than just studying for exams.

The school is 18 miles from Boston, about 30 minutes from Cambridge, and about an hour and a half drive from Logan International Airport. You need to find someone who truly understands your strengths to write your recommendation letters. For recommendation letters provided by teachers of your interests or hobbies, they need to describe what you will continue to do in high school to pursue your specific passions. For example, a basketball coach or a robotics teacher would be good choices.

Concord Academy's dance faculty and students engage in a reciprocal teaching and learning process, grounded in strong technical skills to ensure freedom of expression. The dance program supports not only students who are rigorously studying dance but also those who desire better mind-body integration—dance is an ideal choice for actors and athletes.

Through formal training in ballet and modern dance, as well as opportunities to explore jazz, hip-hop, social dance, and African dance forms, the school's dance curriculum ensures all new dancers have a strong technical foundation. Emphasis is placed on healthy alignment and increasing strength, flexibility, and stamina. As students expand their movement vocabulary, they gradually become familiar with complex rhythms and gain confidence through improvisation and choreography as creative tools.

The school's performing ensemble is dedicated to students who approach dance as an art form, serving as choreographers or dancers in each other's works, as well as learning dances created by the faculty. The dance company performs in the Boston area as well as nationally and internationally. Collaborations include the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, the Royal Academy of Dance London, Eton College, and Brighton College in the UK.

The Concord curriculum emphasizes the logical and intuitive development of mathematical skills, which opens the door to experiencing the creative side of mathematical thinking and the power to solve everyday problems.
By offering multiple pathways within the math curriculum, we cater to students with varying levels of experience and interest. All CA students learn data analysis, a critical 21st-century computational skill, and due to our flexible approach, most students exceed departmental requirements. Older students might study college-level calculus or use economic tools to analyze rent control. Future engineers channel their curiosity into very advanced courses like Abstract Algebra and Number Theory. You might find 11th-grade students playing math games and puzzles together after school, or older students participating in the Harvard-MIT Math Tournament. At CA, we appreciate the foundational role of mathematics in scientific inquiry, and we approach the subject in a collaborative and creative way.

Almost half of Concord students participate in private music lessons, guided by professional classical and popular vocal teachers. Courses in music theory, music history, and music trends are offered to cultivate students' analytical and exploratory abilities. The Concord Academy Singers represent the highest level of vocal excellence at CA; students can only join through successful auditions and an invitation/recommendation from music faculty. Their performance repertoire is highly diverse, ranging from advanced foreign language choral music to a cappella arrangements of popular songs, and they can also create original improvised works. This ensemble serves as the school's music ambassador, frequently appearing at public events and off-campus performances, as well as collaborating with other ensembles within the department.

Concord maintains a free and open school culture. Essentially, all students and teachers at the school enjoy great freedom. If you are a more conservative student, you might even be teased by others. Consequently, disagreements among students are rare on campus. There is genuinely no bullying or harassment at Concord; while older students may have some privileges, this is only a small part of student life and does not become mainstream. Essentially all day students at the school are wealthy white students, but the boarding student population is very diverse.

Concord's small class sizes and the school's encouragement of classroom discussion and participation mean that the school focuses more on cultivating learning skills rather than simply teaching students to memorize specific information. This teaching method lays a solid foundation for students to tackle more challenging university courses and prepares them well for studying different subjects.

The high school workload is very heavy, with students studying 25 to 30 hours per week. If you have questions at school, you can seek help from teachers. Since many teachers live on campus, it is very convenient for students to find them. If a teacher has an arrangement and cannot meet to help you with your questions, you can also send an email, and teachers will reply quickly. Generally, help from your own subject teachers is free, but some teachers may require payment.

### Overall Situation:
- A large number of courses are semester-based, requiring students to match courses for both fall and spring semesters when selecting.
- History and social science courses, unlike other schools that cover world history, American history, and European history from start to finish, are broken down into different semester courses, allowing for in-depth study of a specific period, region, or topic. This arrangement has pros and cons: it gives students more freedom and flexibility in course selection and can cultivate students' ability for in-depth learning and critical thinking. However, if students need to take national standardized tests, especially AP and SAT2, they will need to self-study the content they haven't covered.

### Academic Strengths/Features:
- Humanities and arts courses are particularly outstanding.
- Departmental Study: If the school does not offer a course for content a student wishes to learn, they can apply to their advisor and the academic department head. Upon approval, they can then undertake independent research and study.

### Shangxue Mingde Student Feedback:
- The school has gradually phased out AP courses, but some Chinese students still choose to take AP exams.
- Humanities courses are relatively difficult, and some teachers have very high demands, so it is recommended to be fully prepared.

At Concord, there are many different courses to choose from, and for each subject, different levels of courses can be selected. For example, students who have already studied multivariable calculus in math class have many opportunities to conduct independent research on this knowledge with the school's teachers. At Concord, each class has 12 students. This small number of students allows teachers to supervise each student effectively. Regardless of whether the class is an advanced one, teachers assign many tasks every day. Students who graduate from Concord possess excellent public speaking skills because, in 12th grade, every student is required to give a 15-minute presentation on a topic of their choice in front of the entire student body. Therefore, everyone needs to practice public speaking techniques beforehand. Concord's physics course is the strongest and most challenging course at the school. Physics is considered the domain of exceptional students because, in physics class, students study courses more difficult than AP level. At Concord, performing arts and other math and science courses are also considered very competitive. The only drawback of studying at the school is the humanities courses, as students have fewer options in this subject, though I've heard that the curriculum will become richer next year.

The school's computer, science, and mathematics courses are also extensive; many math-loving students participate in the Harvard-MIT Math Tournament and achieve good results. CA offers a wide range of courses; a school with fewer than 400 students provides 230 courses, including over 40 courses related to performing arts (drama, instrumental music, and dance). Furthermore, the school is only 18 miles from Boston, giving art enthusiasts the opportunity to visit major art venues in Boston. To encourage 9th-grade new students to explore various courses of interest, 9th-grade grades are not counted towards GPA. The school does not select 'model students,' respects each student's individuality and development, and emphasizes cultivating teamwork skills.
