The MacDuffie School was founded in 1890, initially as a girls' school until it began admitting boys in 1991, becoming a co-educational institution. The school is located in Granby, a historic town in Western Massachusetts within the New England region, surrounded by vast green spaces, forests, and lakes, making it ideal for focused study. The school is approximately 1 hour and 37 minutes' drive from Boston and just 1 hour's drive from Harvard University and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
School Advantages:
1. Teacher Shi has visited and inspected the school; its STEM and robotics programs are excellent. The admissions director mentioned that the school's mathematics program is very strong, frequently participating in and winning many awards.
2. Nearby university resources: The school is adjacent to Amherst College and UMass Amherst. Senior students interested in science courses can access university laboratories for study and share university resources.
3. The MacDuffie School's performing arts are also commendable; the school's music teacher graduated from Berklee College of Music, making its music program excellent.
4. A prominent highlight of the school is its strong faculty, with many teachers having graduated from prestigious universities such as Princeton University and Brown University.
5. Great emphasis is placed on cultivating students' leadership skills, which are developed through participation in various activities starting from 9th grade.
6. College matriculation trends are excellent; 100% of graduates continue their studies at university. A large proportion of students matriculate at US News Top 50 ranked schools, particularly in the fields of music, art, business, and engineering.

As parents, choosing the right school for our children is very important. The MacDuffie School is a typical small-scale private school that advocates a small-class teaching model, with an average class size of 10 students and a student-teacher ratio of 1:6. My child received excellent care in terms of academics, mental and physical health, and daily life. Through these past few years of study at The MacDuffie School, they have become more confident and resilient.

Recently, students from The MacDuffie School's AP English class visited Holyoke Media to record a debate about Euripides' 'Medea'. Our visual arts students went to the New Salem Museum to explore artworks. From visiting historical sites to gaining behind-the-scenes industry experience, these field trips provide students with opportunities to expand their knowledge, apply what they've learned in class, and lay the groundwork for future development. Field trips also foster students' teamwork, curiosity, and empathy as they are exposed to diverse perspectives and cultures. At MacDuffie, learning is no longer confined to textbooks but becomes a journey of exploring the world.

In recent ELL classes, students have been delving into literary works through the collaborative approach of literature circles. Each student takes on a role—such as a discussion leader, summarizer, or vocabulary finder—bringing unique perspectives and insights to the text.
This method not only helps enhance students' comprehension but also strengthens their language skills within a peer-led, supportive environment.
From exploring literary content to analyzing characters and themes, these discussions bring stories to life and inspire our students to become confident, active individuals. At MacDuffie, every student's voice is heard!

Stepping into MacDuffie's classroom, the first impression is one of a warm and focused atmosphere. With small-group teaching and a teacher-to-student ratio of 1:6, every student receives ample attention and guidance from teachers, truly achieving 'teaching according to their aptitude.' Additionally, MacDuffie classrooms do not have a fixed seating arrangement. Teachers can flexibly change seating configurations according to teaching requirements. My child previously studied the first year of senior high (高一) at an international school in China. Now, they are enrolled in Grade 10 at The MacDuffie School. Initially, I was worried my child might have some difficulties adapting to American-style education. However, within a month after school started, my child completely adjusted to the school's learning pace, doing homework, and communicating with teachers. At the same time, my child has become more confident than before. They frequently participate in various activities at school, including volunteer, athletic, and art-related ones. Their report card is also excellent, with all A's. Currently, they are preparing for the TOEFL and SAT.

Teachers would often assign topics before class, asking us to lead discussions or give individual presentations. At first, the pressure was immense; I had to conduct research and write essays every day. But after a while, I truly noticed a significant change in myself. After graduating from junior high school in China, I came to MacDuffie School for high school. In China, I wasn't considered an "excellent student" in my class because I had a strong bias towards certain subjects, being particularly fond of literature and art. The course selection system in American high schools is completely different from that in China; it focuses more on students' personal interests and needs, which is very suitable for someone like me who has a strong preference for specific subjects. Moreover, compared to international schools in China, American high schools offer a richer variety of courses. For example, our school has 36 AP and Honor courses combined, and each course has different difficulty levels. Students can choose courses that suit their learning level, enjoying a great degree of freedom in course selection. I can dedicate most of my energy to subjects I love, and won't be at a disadvantage because of my specific academic preferences. Here, I can better find my place and meet my needs, and the teachers and classmates are all very nice and warm.

The MacDuffie School, founded in 1890 in New England, an area with the most concentrated high-quality educational resources in the United States, has a history of 132 years. It was established in the U.S. by the MacDuffie couple, both Harvard graduates, with its educational philosophy inherited from Harvard University. The MacDuffie School boasts an A+ Niche rating and ranks among the top 100 boarding schools. Thanks to its high-quality education, MacDuffie, along with world-class institutions like Harvard University and MIT, simultaneously earned the NEASC accreditation, known as the "American academic gold standard" (only the top 1% of schools nationwide achieve NEASC accreditation).

Our child is currently in 9th grade at MacDuffie School. Before deciding to apply, we consulted many institutions, reviewed a lot of information, and compared many schools. Firstly, the school's century-old history greatly attracted us, coupled with an excellent student-teacher ratio (1:5), outstanding academic achievements, numerous extracurricular activities, and an excellent geographical location. Additionally, throughout the consultation process, the teachers' responses were always patient and honest. All these factors gave us, as parents, great peace of mind. Now, our child has adapted very well to the school, has become more outgoing, and has made good friends. Their academic performance is also very stable. The teachers also regularly provide timely feedback on the child's learning and life at school. We are very relieved and satisfied with our initial choice. We hope the school continues to improve, and we believe our child will also continue to thrive.

The school's curriculum is quite intensive, but exams are not very frequent. All teachers at the school are very supportive and caring towards students. If you have any questions in your courses or face challenges with your assignments, you can schedule a meeting with a teacher, and they will provide you with very detailed guidance.

Compared to other schools, The MacDuffie School is not known for its intense academic competition. However, the teaching quality of the academic teachers is quite good. Although there will be a considerable amount of writing and reading, if students feel too much pressure or don't understand something, they can schedule a meeting with a teacher, and they will make appropriate adjustments, so the pressure won't be excessively high.

My impression of The MacDuffie School is still very good. The deepest impression I have is from 2015, when my student, due to rushed preparation for studying abroad, couldn't get into a top-tier university and chose MacDuffie. The student actually gave very positive feedback about The MacDuffie School; the teachers there are all particularly nice, and the school atmosphere is harmonious. In 10th grade, I helped her apply to Miss Porter's, which is ranked among the top fifty schools, but after one semester, the student couldn't adapt to the new school and transferred back to MacDuffie. Eventually, she enrolled in UC Santa Barbara for her undergraduate degree, and both the student and parents have given very good feedback about The MacDuffie School.

The school is located in Massachusetts, New England, approximately 2 hours from Boston. It offers grades 6-12. Middle school students (grades 6-8) can also board and are accepted as international students. Currently, there are 210 students enrolled. For international students, the school offers two options: dormitories and host families, though most reside in the school dormitories. International students make up approximately 40% of the student body. The school has dedicated staff managing admissions and international student affairs domestically. The school offers 14 AP courses and a total of 36 AP honors courses. In 2019, three students were admitted to Ivy League universities, and the university placements for graduates in recent years have been exceptional.

Recently, there have been quite a few students inquiring about The MacDuffie School, mainly focusing on the school's teaching quality, small class sizes, and geographical location. It's also said that this year's admission requirements have significantly increased. Grade 9 now requires TOEFL 80+/Duolingo 105+, and Grade 10 requires 85+/110+, making the application process increasingly competitive.

University placement is also good, with most Chinese students able to get into Top 60 institutions. I heard that in the 2023 Early Decision round, a student was admitted to Brown University.

The MacDuffie School is not large, but its campus atmosphere is exceptionally good. Especially every Monday, the entire school sings 'Happy Birthday' together for students celebrating their birthdays that week, which is very heartwarming. There are also many interesting activities during holidays. Students come from 25 countries/regions worldwide, and each student has a dedicated teacher who serves as an advisor, looking after their studies and daily life. They meet 2-3 times a week, and student feedback has been very positive.

The MacDuffie School is a century-old institution. It's understood that from 1890-1990, it was an all-girls school, educating many female elites worldwide. From 1990 to the present, it has been co-educational. Its alumni include individuals in politics, arts, media, and sports, and it has even nurtured NBA rising stars. It cultivates exceptional individuals across academics, arts, and sports. The campus is also quite large, reportedly 254 acres, covered with forest vegetation, and both summer and winter sceneries are exceptionally beautiful. It's a great school, and the language requirements are quite reasonable. My students really love it.

The graduates of MacDuffie have had a relatively excellent career path in recent years, with several Ivy League admissions each year. Most Chinese students have also entered Top 60 universities. The advantage of a small school is its high level of attention to students, making it very suitable for Chinese students to attend. MacDuffie also has a middle school division, where students from grades 6-8 can live on campus. There are separate dormitories for the middle school, making it a great alternative school for applicants to American junior high schools!

On the very first day of school, the student council president came to offer new students various guidance, helping us adapt to the new campus life and pointing out what to focus on for university applications. We immediately got into study mode. There are quite a few English classes and tutoring sessions in the first semester. After classes in the afternoon, there's plenty of time to participate in diverse student activities or study independently. Our advisor reminded us to make sure we manage our schedules well so that we can enjoy this wonderful high school life while also achieving something and being fully prepared for university! This school made a very deep impression on me. I learned about it because I once paid attention to the situation of American schools attended by Chinese girls during the Republic of China period. Today, this school is an excellent boarding school in both academics and arts. There are also evening study sessions, which are a great option for children with slightly weaker self-discipline. The school campus is very large, and the price is considered moderate for Massachusetts. Additionally, the child is very interested in some of the collaborative projects and courses between the school and universities. As a professional consultant with 11 years of experience, I am deeply impressed by the academic achievements of The MacDuffie School. Firstly, their faculty team boasts Ivy League qualifications, with teachers graduating from Harvard, Chicago, Dartmouth, Michigan State University, Yale, and Brown. 76% of the teachers hold master's degrees or higher. STEM education is particularly outstanding, especially for Chinese students, who have formed a robotics club and achieved notable rankings. From 2018-2020, they even defeated Deerfield's Bull teams in math competitions, becoming champions. The arts program is also exceptional; in the past two years, Chinese students have been admitted to Berklee College of Music. Furthermore, professional-level public performances of musicals, plays, and musical ensembles are held in spring, summer, and autumn.

Our child is currently in 8th grade at The MacDuffie School. Before deciding to apply, we consulted many agencies, reviewed a lot of information, and compared many schools. Ultimately, we still chose MacDuffie. Firstly, the school's century-long history greatly appealed to us, along with its excellent student-teacher ratio (1:5), outstanding academic achievements, numerous extracurricular activities, and superb geographical location. Furthermore, throughout the consultation process, the teachers' responses were always patient and honest. All these factors made us as parents feel very reassured. Now, our child has adapted very well to the school, has become more outgoing, and has made good friends. Their grades are also very stable. The teachers also regularly provide timely feedback on the child's learning and life at school. We are very relieved and satisfied with our initial choice. We hope the school continues to improve, and we believe our child will also continue to thrive.

My child is going to The MacDuffie School for 7th grade this year. I'm very satisfied with the entire process, from consultation to application and interview. The teachers are very professional and patient. The school environment is excellent. My child watched videos and attended The MacDuffie School's online sharing session. The Head of School and Director of Admissions patiently answered my questions about the school. Academically, the school is very strong; a student was recently admitted to Cornell University. Now my child has decided to go to The MacDuffie School. My child likes it, and as a parent, I feel at ease.

The MacDuffie School, located in Granby, Massachusetts, near Boston, has an 80% white student population and is situated in a safe town. The school covers an area of 254 acres, which is more than twice the size of our Forbidden City. Various school competitions are held on campus, allowing Chinese students' athletic talents to be fully showcased. Student care is also very attentive. The school enrolls grades 6-8 and has been recognized as a Massachusetts model unit for pandemic prevention. It strictly adheres to local epidemic prevention policies and has consistently maintained a zero-COVID policy.

My student has been very well taken care of at McDuffie School. When he first enrolled, his language proficiency was not very good, so the school provided language courses. After one semester, his English level significantly improved, and he can now largely adapt to the school's study life. His academic performance has also greatly improved, with almost all his current courses being A's. In terms of sports, my student is particularly interested in swimming. The school offers swimming training without extra charge, reportedly 4-5 sessions per week. Cross-country track and field is another activity my student enjoys participating in. Before attending McDuffie School, my student was very quiet and not particularly fond of sports. After coming to McDuffie, the teachers paid a lot of attention to him, and with many outdoor activities, his personality gradually unfolded, and he actively participates in various outdoor sports. My student's parents are also very happy. I look forward to my student further showcasing and improving his talents and academic achievements at McDuffie School, enabling him to apply to his dream university.

Students demonstrate their leadership in the classroom, on the sports field, in arts, community service, and more, working closely with faculty and staff. Their leadership program is very unique. Teachers have undergone professional leadership development training by a visiting professor from Cornell University's Johnson Graduate School of Management. Every graduate of The MacDuffie School will complete leadership training and receive a leadership skills certificate.
At The MacDuffie School, each class corresponds to a block, and each block has a different time each day. Depending on the student's courses, each teacher will assign different weighting to scores. Their art classes are also excellent, such as visual arts (including 24 art courses), dance (modern dance, choreography), music (choir and instruments, guitar, music theory, music composition), and drama.

I have visited and inspected The MacDuffie School. The school is located right next to Amherst College and UM-Amherst University. Senior students who enjoy science courses can enter university laboratories to study and share university resources.

School Advantages:

1. The school excels in Mathematics, STEM, and Robotics. Its mathematics teams frequently participate in competitions and win many awards.

2. The performing arts at The MacDuffie School are also excellent, with the school organizing three large theatrical productions annually.

3. The school places great importance on cultivating student leadership, allowing students to develop their leadership skills by participating in various activities starting from 9th grade.

4. Sports are excellent, having won many awards. Signature programs include girls' soccer, boys' basketball, boys' soccer, girls' basketball, field hockey, and softball.

The school's location is very convenient, in Boston, Massachusetts. 30% of the school's core teaching staff graduated from Ivy League universities. Their math program is very strong, having defeated the prestigious Deerfield Academy in the Massachusetts Math Competition for four consecutive years, which I think is quite impressive. The robotics club, founded by Chinese students just two years ago, won ninth place nationwide in the First Robotics Competition held in March 2020. The school shows a very high level of attention and management for international students. The principal and teachers basically know all the students in the school, and students are very familiar with each other. There is no bullying, and teachers absolutely forbid discrimination against international students. During the pandemic, compared to some other schools with fewer international students that required them to vacate dorms within 48 hours, our school, despite government pressure, implemented the best possible epidemic prevention measures. They individually assigned dormitory isolation for each boarding student and arranged host families for students. During online classes, teachers use two cameras to ensure students can clearly see the whiteboard, and they prioritize questions from online students before allowing students in the classroom to ask. I have three students studying here, and their feedback has been positive. Although there is a gap compared to some top-tier schools, what is best for the child is what matters most.

The school provides excellent care and management for international students. During the pandemic, the meticulous and thoughtful arrangements for international students were particularly evident, with every boarding student being assigned a single room. The school's new vice principal holds a Master's degree in Education from Harvard University. The math competition team, primarily composed of Asian students, has consecutively defeated the top-tier school Deerfield for four years, winning many championships. A robotics team formed by Chinese students two years ago achieved an impressive 9th place nationwide in the FIRST Competition.

Our school charges international students taking online classes from home based on commuter fees, which is roughly half of the previous tuition. Compared to other schools that don't reduce fees or only reduce by a few thousand USD, it's truly a very conscientious school!!!

The pandemic isn't over yet, but university offers are rolling in! Our Chinese students not only received admissions from Vanderbilt, but also from top business school Bentley and top music school Berklee College! Not to mention a series of offers from UC-Davis, San Diego, UW Seattle, and more. Amazing, MacDuffie!!

I genuinely really like this school. At first, it felt a bit old, but over time, I started to feel history in every corner. The teachers are very, very, very (important things said three times) good, full of passion, and incredibly kind to the students. You can tell they are the kind of teachers who are deeply devoted to the cause of education and can't help but immerse themselves in it.

Our child has been studying at MacDuffie for almost two years now. Initially, we didn't have very high expectations for him; we just hoped he could learn happily and find a suitable school. When he first started, the campus looked quite ordinary, a bit old but very large, typical of an open-plan design, and the environment was still quite good. As time went on, our child seemed quite happy studying there. The teachers give a high level of attention, and if our child has any problems, he can always find someone to help. As long as he's safe and doesn't have any life issues, we felt at ease. However, we gradually noticed that his academic performance had improved significantly. He didn't use to like math much, but since going there, his math has gotten better and better, showing great progress. Our child says that learning there doesn't require rote memorization of formulas; instead, he thinks for himself and discusses problem-solving methods with classmates, which has made him increasingly interested. Before, when he was in China, he wasn't very willing to talk to us about these things, but now he's willing to communicate. We feel that MacDuffie has really brought about significant changes in him. We are all very content and 100% satisfied with the school.

The teachers at the school are all very dedicated and responsible, and they are especially patient with international students. Currently, with online classes, due to time zone differences, teachers will specially record lessons so that students who have returned home can watch the replays. Furthermore, the school also has a teacher in China who can conveniently answer parents' questions during normal hours and help parents contact relevant teachers in the US.

Due to the pandemic, the school closed. However, the school made great efforts to look after international students who didn't have host families and couldn't return to their home countries. They properly accommodated the children. Many thanks to the principal and the school's teachers!

Recently, the flu in the US has been very severe. The school has arranged on-campus nurses, both day and night, to assist students in need at any time. Furthermore, because international students cannot return to their home countries recently, the school's teachers have made special efforts to arrange accommodation for every international student unable to go back home for spring break. We are very grateful for the teachers' care.

Personally, I feel that our school's ranking is very unfair. Some schools in the top thirty have lower average SAT scores and a smaller proportion of highly educated teachers than our school. Therefore, when choosing a school, one really needs to keep their eyes open, look more at the school's actual performance, and not blindly rely on rankings.

My child is already in 11th grade this year. When we were choosing schools, it was a very difficult decision. In 8th grade, my child scored 88 on the TOEFL but didn't have SSAT scores. Because my child is a bit introverted and not outgoing enough, we were worried he wouldn't adapt well to a school with too many students. After a long period of consideration, we still chose MacDuffie. Now it proves that our initial choice was correct. In the years my child has been at MacDuffie, not only has his self-confidence grown stronger, but his abilities in various aspects have also improved rapidly. He has participated in cross-country running for two consecutive years and won the state championship, and he gets along very well with classmates from various countries. We sincerely thank the school's teachers for their help with our child!

The school is in western Massachusetts, surrounded by many universities, and also very close to major cities. My child at the time wanted to be closer to a big city, and also be able to easily find alumni nearby for higher education, which is why we chose this school. The school has a relatively high proportion of international students and is very experienced in caring for Chinese students. My child adapted very well there.

Last month, I visited the school with my family and attended its open day. I feel that the school's size is quite suitable for international students. The student representatives and teachers were very enthusiastic and kindly answered all our questions. The school building isn't exceptionally large, but it's not small either. After walking around, I still couldn't get my bearings... We had lunch at the school cafeteria, and the food was quite good. Since it was a Saturday, there were no classes. Overall, I have a good impression of the school, and my family also likes it. They were worried I might be too introverted to make friends, but after this open day, I've already met two friends, one of whom is even the Vice President of the student council. Her English is excellent; when she was representing the school and giving a presentation, you couldn't tell the difference between her English and that of a native speaker. I feel that the school's teaching and environment should be very suitable for me.

Our school has a very strong mathematics program. The head mathematics teacher graduated from Yale University and won the championship in the New England regional mathematics competition for three consecutive years. Admissions officers from well-known universities frequently visit our school to give presentations on university applications. The school counselors are very responsible, meeting with students at least three times a week for college counseling. Last year, three students gained admission to Ivy League universities. Overall, most students matriculate to Top 50 universities. Some students also choose well-known liberal arts colleges, such as Bowdoin and Claremont McKenna.

The school is located in Massachusetts, New England, 2 hours from Boston. It offers grades 6-12. Middle school students can also board and are accepted as international students. Currently, there are 275 students enrolled. The facilities are moderate, and the campus is not large. The school offers two options for international students: dormitories and host families, but most students reside in the school dormitories. The proportion of international students is 50%. The school has dedicated staff in the country to manage admissions and international student affairs. The school offers 14 AP courses and over 40 AP/honors courses in total. In 2019, there were 3 Ivy League acceptances, and this year's trend is particularly outstanding.
