Top U.S. Boarding School Strong STEM and Humanities Outstanding College Preparation Safe, Supportive Community Global Learning Environment Personalized Academic Guidance
Thomas Jefferson School (TJ) is a small, academically rigorous day and boarding school located just outside St. Louis, serving students in grades 7–12. Our size is intentional. With fewer than 90 students, every class is discussion-based, every voice matters, and no student disappears. TJ is designed for students who are ready to move beyond lecture-style classes into active thinking, speaking, and writing. Classes meet daily and move at a purposeful pace, with close faculty guidance that helps students adapt to the expectations of U.S. classrooms while building confidence over time. Learning extends well beyond the classroom. Faculty know students personally and remain actively involved throughout the day and evening, ensuring that students are both challenged and supported in a structured environment. Outcomes are consistently strong. TJ students earn admission to highly selective universities in the U.S. and U.K., including Cambridge, Cornell, Rice, and Vanderbilt. Graduates leave not only well prepared, but confident, independent, and ready to succeed in demanding university environments.

We’ve had a truly positive experience with Thomas Jefferson School. As a current 10th-grade parent, it’s been incredibly rewarding to see how much our son has grown since joining the school. One of the most meaningful aspects of his experience has been the strong relationships he’s built. He bonded quickly with his advisor, who has provided thoughtful guidance and genuine support in a community that feels both inclusive and intellectually engaged.

This was the perfect school for my son. It is so personal and everyone feels like family. Faculty get to know each student so well. Academics are challenging but not in a way to cause students to be burned out. When you talk to alumni you realize that TJ instills a lifelong love of learning. It is also a very nurturing and safe space for students to try new things including sports, robotics, dance and drama and more.

Nearby City

St. Louis, Missouri, sits along the Mississippi River at the state’s eastern border, near its meeting point with the Missouri River. Covering 61.74 square miles, its boundaries have been unchanged since 1876. Known as the "Gateway to the West," St. Louis was central to U.S. westward expansion, symbolized by the Gateway Arch—a 630-foot stainless steel structure and the world’s tallest monument—located in the 86-acre Gateway Arch National Park along the downtown riverfront. Operating independently from any county under Missouri's laws, St. Louis adopted its charter in 1923, following incorporation as a town in 1809 and as a city in 1823, a governance structure still in place today.
