We’ve had a truly positive experience with Thomas Jefferson School. As a current 10th-grade parent, it’s been incredibly rewarding to see how much our son has grown since joining the school. One of the most meaningful aspects of his experience has been the strong relationships he’s built. He bonded quickly with his advisor, who has provided thoughtful guidance and genuine support in a community that feels both inclusive and intellectually engaged.

This was the perfect school for my son. It is so personal and everyone feels like family. Faculty get to know each student so well. Academics are challenging but not in a way to cause students to be burned out. When you talk to alumni you realize that TJ instills a lifelong love of learning. It is also a very nurturing and safe space for students to try new things including sports, robotics, dance and drama and more.

The school's academics are excellent, with very high average SAT scores. Although it's not large, teachers are highly attentive to students, helping them establish a symphony orchestra and also teaching them how to secure sponsorships. It's a truly substantial and engaged school.

The school has 83 students in total. It's not a large campus, so safety is not an issue. Accommodation is good, but the catering is terrible; not only Chinese students find it unpalatable, even local students think it's bad. Each grade has 15-20 students, and each grade continuously admits new students every year. Some Chinese students who transfer in during 11th or 12th grade are academic high-achievers. Chinese students make up 1/4 of the student body. Homework takes 4-5 hours daily, and academic requirements are strict. Humanities are stronger than sciences. It's a relatively traditional school with not many activities, suitable for quiet, self-motivated, self-disciplined, and strong self-learners. There are clubs, but the choices are limited. Sports are not this school's strong suit. The old principal was a kind old lady who managed the school with a warm and nurturing approach. A new principal took over this year; we don't know what their style will be, but we are looking forward to it.
