It is always a joy to see that there is a mother who plans early. Finding a summer program that is 'not all about play' for 7th grade student is a good start. And it will take some time to find the right one. Summer program that focuses on academics alone is not healthy and all academic summer programs also have some 'play time' as well. So 'playing' is not bad as long as academics and 'playing' is well balanced. Some selective academic programs requires language skills and have a longer process while other typical summer programs are 'rolling admission program.' You might want to do some research on summer camps based on your child's interest, ability, academic plan for future as soon as possible because usually these selective summer camps have deadlines and are closing soon. Perhaps you can give more details on what kind of plans you have for your child, not just saying that you need 'academic' programs, but ask more questions such as 'what kind of academic subjects my child is interested,' and 'what levels my child is in for that particular subject', and 'how my child could be improved.' And then perhaps we or other counselors can narrow down on some summer camp options. Prime Global
