一般来说申请大学最好有3门左右的AP课程成绩，主要是证明自己的学习能力，在SAT，SAT2的基础上提供AP成绩，在学术方面的确是会有竞争优势。而并非申请的强制性要求。美国高中AP课程的选修一般从10年级开始，大多数大学更愿意接受理科的成绩，如AP calculus, AP Bio,AP Physics等，IB不是每个学校都有，和AP不一样，IB是一个独立的课程体系，需要花几年的时间才能够完成，而不是一门单独的考试。还是看学校的情况，决定自己如何修课。
AP is important if the schools have AP. Some schools like PEA do not have AP courses. When that is the case, it is important that the student take honors courses in the school. The universities want to see that the student is stretching themselves and not taking really easy courses just to get the good grades.
