Dalton School

Dalton School, established in 1919, is a top co-educational day school located in Manhattan, New York, enrolling students from K-12 grades. It's only a 10-minute walk to the famous Central Park, 13 minutes to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 6 minutes to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and approximately 25 minutes walk to the American Museum of Natural History.

School Features:

1. Immersive, interdisciplinary "Intensive Study." This is a highly unique module in Dalton's curriculum design. During the high school years, the school pauses regular classes (usually in January and June) for approximately three weeks of "Intensive Study." Students focus deeply on only one course during this period.

2. Academic Strengths: Offers STEAM courses, World Language courses (Latin, Spanish, French, Mandarin), Museum courses, and students have numerous internship opportunities. Dalton School was also one of the earliest private schools in New York City to offer Mandarin Chinese education.

3. Prominent Visual Arts and Drama: Teachers for Dalton's fine arts and drama classes must be professional artists. Teachers in the language and history departments generally hold doctoral degrees. For drama, an annual spring senior project allows all high school students to participate in productions, encouraging them to take on roles as stage managers, assistant designers, assistant directors, and board members.

4. Strong Basketball Program: The girls' basketball team won the state championship in 2018; the boys' basketball team won the league championship in both 2018 and 2019.

5. **Leadership and School Governance:** Students have many opportunities to participate in school governance and leadership development programs, such as the Student Behavior Committee, Student Government, and Peer Leadership Program.

7. **Excellent College Placement:** Of 565 graduates between 2016 and 2020, college acceptances included Yale (26), UPenn (26), Columbia (17), University of Chicago (16), Princeton (16), Stanford (9), MIT (4), etc., indicating excellent university placement.
