As an international student, Rice Memorial High School has been a really welcoming place to learn and grow. From my first week, classmates and teachers made an effort to include me—whether that was helping me understand classroom routines, inviting me into group work, or just making small talk in the hallways so I didn’t feel alone. Academically, the school pushes you in a good way. Teachers are approachable and genuinely want you to succeed, especially when you’re adjusting to a new education system and a different style of writing, discussion, and grading. I’ve also appreciated how supportive the community is outside of class—clubs, sports, and student groups make it easy to find people who share your interests, even if you’re naturally quiet at first. When Junghoon, at a young age, made the decision to study abroad alone in a distant foreign country, driven by big dreams, and explained his vision for his future to his parents, it was difficult to imagine the person he is today. It was a great fortune for our entire family that Junghoon met everyone at Rice Memorial High School and his host family (including Travis and the entire family).
