Chapin School is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York, covering Kindergarten through 12th grade, with a total student population of approximately 750 students.
Chapin's Lower School covers Kindergarten through 3rd grade, the Middle School covers 4th through 7th grade, and the Upper School covers 8th through 12th grade. Students begin learning Spanish in elementary school and can continue Spanish in middle school or switch to French or Chinese.
Robotics and programming are very important parts of the middle school curriculum. 7th-grade students begin studying Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Middle school social sciences teach American geography, ancient and medieval civilizations, and American history.
Chapin's science curriculum also has many highlights. For example, 4th-grade students use Chapin's weather station to predict weather conditions, and 6th-grade students study the effects of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco on the human body. Before the start of 6th grade, students travel to Cape Cod for a 4-day study of marine biology and coastal environments.
Chapin's Upper School offers physics, chemistry, and biology courses, and provides AP courses for 11th and 12th-grade students. High school students will study calculus, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
