My son now is the boarding student grade 9 in Webb since 2025. Every time when I asked my son, how about your school, he always answered me as "Webb is great." And, he told me that he really love his school. I also visited Webb many times too and I always felt that his reply is very true!!!

As a parent, I am deeply grateful for the dedication of the teachers at this school. They work tirelessly to develop innovative curricula and foster leadership skills in our children. Thanks to their efforts, the students grow healthy in both mind and body. I highly recommend this school to any parent who wants to raise their child to be a true leader.

The teachers are great and fun people who are experts in their field, my experience with other students was great and continues to be great. The food is pretty good, it can get repetitive though. Great ceremonies, VWS candlelight is beautiful and WSC candlelight is fun to see. The campus is beautiful. My only problem with the school is PBL. Chapel speeches seems like a good concept but it gets pretty tiresome. Overall though, my experience was pretty good.

The Webb Schools is by no means an easy school academically, and students study diligently. On the other hand, rather than just being competitive, there's an atmosphere that values intellectual curiosity and independence, and students are relatively calm among themselves.

Furthermore, the socioeconomic diversity as a boarding school is also a major appeal of this institution, in my opinion. When sending a child from Japan, there's inevitably a concern about "what if my child feels isolated?" but Webb gathers students from various backgrounds, which provides a sense of reassurance in that regard.

Personally, I also appreciate the positive atmosphere among the students. Being an American school, there's a tendency to feel a certain level of apprehension, but there have been no issues with drugs or alcohol, making it an environment where I feel comfortable entrusting my child.

The campus has the beauty and tranquility characteristic of a traditional school and is very attractive. On the other hand, in terms of facilities, I feel that a bit more attention to cleanliness would be welcome. However, perhaps this naturalness, not overly contrived, including that aspect, is what defines this school.

Regarding meals, honestly speaking, it's not the school's strong suit. However, I do sense a willingness to improve, and efforts to make it better than before are visible.

The university placement record is excellent, but rather than the school excessively managing and engineering placements, I feel it's a culture where students actively make their own efforts, and the school supports their challenges. The teachers are also very human, and many respond well if you actively engage with them.

While I don't think it's a perfect school, I believe it's an excellent environment for students who want to grow both intellectually and personally.

This is a school where teachers provide extensive support not only in academic guidance but also in the living environment and club activities. Through my child's four years of growth, I strongly felt that this school is a community that emphasizes coexistence rather than fanning competitive spirit. It is a recommended school for children who have strong independence and wish to develop leadership skills.

In terms of academics, I feel that my daughter is receiving a top-level education in the United States. In small classes, teachers pay attention to each student, encouraging them not just to learn passively, but to ask their own questions and develop a proactive attitude to try new things. I believe that many graduates going on to top universities nationwide is a direct result of this daily accumulation.
The location is also a major attraction. Among the many boarding schools in California, Webb is closest to Los Angeles. While situated in a tranquil environment surrounded by nature, it also benefits from the rich opportunities unique to a major city. For my daughter, who loves dance, this means she can participate in dance workshops held in LA. I feel that an environment where one can pursue both academics and passions is truly invaluable.
In an environment with relatively few Japanese students, my daughter has come to share her daily life with peers from all over the world. By being exposed to diverse values, she has developed the ability to think for herself and express her thoughts in her own words, growing more independent and resilient.
And what is most reassuring is the presence of the advisory teachers. They not only provide advice on studies but also on daily life and future career paths, always lending a sympathetic ear. Even with family far away, the peace of mind that comes from having trustworthy adults supporting her nearby is immeasurably great.

The student is independent yet cooperates well with friends in academic, extracurricular, and volunteer activities. Above all, it is a school where a free atmosphere and an appropriate distance among parents are well maintained. I am very satisfied.

The Webb Schools are located in Claremont, California, not far from Los Angeles, with convenient transportation. It is a co-educational boarding school for grades 9-12. I visited the school last year. The school feels very welcoming, with strict security, making the campus very safe. In recent years, the school's college acceptance rate has been excellent, with 5 students admitted to Stanford and 5 to USC. Webb's faculty is outstanding, with teachers having an average of over 15 years of teaching experience; 83% of them hold master's degrees, and 24% have doctorates.
School Features:
1. The most distinctive feature of The Webb Schools in California is its on-campus paleontological museum. It is the only high school in the world with a paleontology museum on its campus. Here, children can learn professional archaeological knowledge and excavate their own ancient fossils.
2. The Webb Schools collaborate with renowned institutions such as Harvey Mudd College to offer advanced courses in computer science, anatomy, and physiology to students.
3. The school has a strong sports program, fielding 42 teams in 15 different sports, boasting 80 league championships and 3 CIF championships.
4. Webb has established a partnership with the Chemistry Department of Pomona College and Professor Dan O'Leary. Webb students can attend Robbins Dinners and Lectures, where they hear about the latest research from Nobel laureates and other leading figures in chemical sciences.

The Webb Schools, founded in 1922, are located in Claremont, California, home to five of the state's most prestigious liberal arts colleges. Webb is one of California's most renowned private boarding high schools, with boarders making up 62% of the student body.

Webb is the only high school in the United States with a nationally accredited museum and the only high school in the world with a paleontology museum on campus. The Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology is an integral part of Webb. Webb is dedicated to providing students with a broad liberal arts and science education, fostering genuine discovery, and rigorous academic learning. Advanced courses in fields such as paleontology, anatomy and physiology, and organic chemistry allow students to experience the rigor of using cutting-edge laboratories and technology. In the humanities, semester electives like Ethics and Modern Global Affairs, Cultural Contagion, and Los Angeles Literary Culture offer in-depth academic inquiry. In mathematics and world languages, advanced courses span from linear algebra and statistics to global literature and film.

All students begin their study of paleontology in ninth grade through fossil expeditions: excavating fossils and then bringing them back for scientific research. Students passionate about this work can continue their paleontological research through a series of courses, leading to the Honors Museum Research Program. This unique approach to experiential learning represents a model for Webb, a curriculum built on encouraging students to think about real-world problems and seek answers.

The Webb Schools fields 42 teams across 15 different sports, boasting 80 league championships and 3 CIF championships.

Principal Zhan's Review: Webb is one of California's most renowned private boarding high schools, offering students diverse educational resources and a rich variety of lifestyle choices. Notably, Webb's distinctive offerings include its paleontology program and a dedicated world-class paleontology museum, where children can learn professional archaeological knowledge and even excavate their own ancient fossils. Webb places great emphasis on culture and academics, making it an ideal environment for children with a strong interest in archaeology, history, and geography.
In terms of cultural heritage, from its Spanish and American architectural styles to its various school traditions, Webb exudes a strong cultural atmosphere. The school's core building, the Vivian Webb Chapel, embodies rich traditions, and the school regularly invites experts and 12th-grade students to share various experiences and information in the chapel.
Regarding academic development, all of the school's courses can be studied interdisciplinarily, and university-level courses are offered. Webb boasts an excellent faculty; teachers have an average of over 15 years of teaching experience, with 83% holding master's degrees and 24% possessing doctorates.
For community building, the school offers over 70 societies and clubs for students to choose from, enriching their areas of interest. Children can attend lectures and communicate and learn from each other in the chapel every week.
In terms of emotional support, Webb provides a comprehensive guidance system to help students adapt to boarding life, pairing each student with a teacher or career advisor. Guidance counselors communicate with students weekly, helping them integrate into their studies, daily life, and extracurricular activities.

Field studies are conducted in every department and discipline at Webb Schools. Each year, there are 30 or more field trips where students can work at biological field stations or trace history in cultural archives—allowing students to apply what they learn to real-life situations. Recent projects include the Huntington Library, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Webb's travel program offers domestic and international trips during school breaks and summer vacation. Our travel goal is to provide students with defining experiences that help them broaden their worldview. Travel promotes unconstrained thinking, global fluency, and global citizenship through field visits, cultural exploration, language immersion, and community service. The travel schedule is announced each fall and is open to the entire Webb community unless otherwise specified. Recent trips have included Spain, France, and Costa Rica.
The school boasts a 150-acre campus with many distinctive teaching programs. Students can learn advanced knowledge such as biotechnology and paleontological research here. In addition, Webb Schools focuses on a comprehensive study of various human body systems, allowing students to access advanced scientific experimental equipment and technologies.
Webb Schools also collaborates with renowned institutions like Harvey Mudd College to offer advanced courses in computer science, anatomy, and physiology. These courses aim to cultivate students' innovative thinking and practical abilities, laying a solid foundation for their future academic and professional careers.

The Webb Schools, founded in 1922, are renowned for their excellent educational standards and co-educational system. Webb Schools offer college preparatory courses and enjoy a high reputation in academics, arts, and sports.
The Webb Schools campus is located on the outskirts of Claremont, a university town, nestled in the San Gabriel Mountains on the West Coast, in a prestigious small town. The school's vicinity boasts facilities such as restaurants, boutiques, art galleries, pharmacies, and banks, providing students with a convenient living environment.

Webb Schools is the first school in the United States to have its own archaeology program for students, and it also houses the Alf Museum, a perfect example of 'thinking without borders.' It's not merely a place for students to view fossils. Here, students can participate in the process of scientific research, experience the joy of discovery, and contribute to scientific development. Moreover, it's a lot of fun. Every Webb student spends a weekend at a real excavation site. Besides learning how field scientists work, students also enjoy the 'tough' physical challenges and even the excitement of making significant discoveries for the museum's collection. After all, 95% of the museum's more than 195,000 specimens have been discovered by Webb students, faculty, and alumni.

1、Excellent Academics: Average SAT score: 1380/1600; ACT: 31/36. 95% of students are admitted to top 10 regional universities.
2、Strong College Matriculation: High academic performance. 100% of 2022 graduates were admitted to four-year universities or colleges, with 95% entering top 10% schools. The Webb Schools host visits from over 200 universities annually. During application season, the school invites guest speakers to train and guide relevant subject teachers on how to write recommendation letters.
3、Rich Curriculum: 33 AP courses and honors courses available for students to choose from.
4、Emphasis on Natural Sciences: The school has a strong focus on natural sciences. For instance, it is the only high school in the world with a nationally accredited museum (The Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology), housing 150,000 exhibits. 95% of the fossil specimens are excavated and processed by students and teachers. Paleontology is a mandatory course for 9th graders, where students visit fossil excavation sites to discover and excavate fossils, bringing them back to school for study and organization. The paleontology course and museum are run by two full-time paleontologists, both holding doctoral degrees.
5、Unique Management Style: Webb is divided into two campuses: a boys' school and a girls' school. It has always adopted a "two schools, one campus" management approach, where boys and girls attend separate classes in 9th and 10th grades, only combining for mixed classes in 11th and 12th grades.

I am currently a 10th-grade student at Webb, California. History, literature, and science are mandatory subjects in the 9th and 10th-grade curriculum based on the school's new educational system: The 9th-grade curriculum includes World Civilizations, Foundations of Composition, and Evolutionary Biology; the 10th-grade curriculum includes U.S. History, U.S. Literature, and Integrated Physics and Chemistry. The 11th and 12th-grade curricula offer a wider range of choices. The school has also added many Honors and Advanced Studies courses for students to choose from. See the school's official website for more details.

The school's most notable feature is its unique paleontology museum, which houses numerous collections and is open to the public on weekends. The 9th-grade Evolutionary Biology course will include a period of study in the museum, as well as a one-time experience of digging for dinosaur fossils in the nearby desert, with many new discoveries emerging each year. Most of the faculty are experienced Ph.D. holders in the field of paleontology. Typically, class sizes are around 10 students, and humanities and social science teachers hold advanced degrees such as Master's or Ph.D.s. Classes adopt the Harkness Discussion format. The teacher-student relationships are harmonious, and the faculty's qualifications are very high. Students have 3 classes per day (2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon), each 80 minutes long, interspersed with Chapel (lectures in the auditorium), Class meetings, Office Hours (consultation in the teacher's office), Advisory (conversations with the academic advisor), etc.

Webb's mission has four tenets: think boldly, critically, and creatively; act with honor and moral courage; lead with a spirit of excellence; and serve with a spirit of generosity. The school encourages students to practice these missions, and it is a consistent commitment for the school when setting up courses and activities to provide students with leadership opportunities, service opportunities, and to encourage students to do the right thing. In the annual application essays, there is also an option for applicants to choose the one that best matches/resonates with them to elaborate on. This shows the key qualities Webb looks for in applicants.
Secondly, Webb has established partnerships with Claremont Colleges and other colleges and universities in the surrounding area. For example, students can also conduct MRI research at Pomona College. Students taking advanced computer science courses can study at Harvey Mudd College.
Webb is one of the better boarding high schools in California, and there are relatively many Asian students there, which inevitably leads to a more competitive environment.

Webb took many measures to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, all students and staff had to undergo nucleic acid testing before being allowed to return to campus. At the same time, the school tried to avoid gatherings and limit sports activities, required all personnel to wear surgical masks, and provided vaccinations for all eligible individuals. The Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology also temporarily closed during the pandemic, converting many exhibits to an online format.

The Webb School is a co-educational boarding school founded in 1922, located in Claremont, approximately an hour's drive from Pasadena and Los Angeles. Students can enjoy various recreational activities on weekends, and many prefer to relax at the beach.

Webb's students represent 23 countries, and 40% of them are students of color. The average class size is 16, with a student-teacher ratio of 7:1. The average graduation rate is 100%, and 90% of graduates are admitted to Top 10 nationally ranked popular colleges or universities, such as the University of Southern California, UCLA, UC Berkeley, New York University, and others. 65% of the students are boarders, with 20% of those being international students.

The most distinctive feature of The Webb School is that it houses the Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology, the only accredited paleontology museum in the United States. The school emphasizes hands-on learning, allowing students to excavate fossils and conduct original research through Webb’s Rogers Peccary Scholars program. The school organizes over 30 field trips each year. Recent field trip destinations have included NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Beyond experiential learning, the school also offers programs like Boundary-Breaking Days, travel programs, and workshop days. Additionally, The Webb School provides 22 varsity sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball, cheerleading, golf, and more.

What are Webb's dorms like?
Admissions Officer:
For male freshmen, all have independent single rooms, which is a very attractive feature of Webb for students who value their personal alone time. Female students are in double rooms with roommates, which is an arrangement Webb makes based on different considerations for male and female students. For female students, at the beginning of each semester, there will be a questionnaire to fill out, asking what kind of roommate they would like, and the school will match them according to the students' preferences. Each semester, the dorms will score and rate students' performance, and students with higher scores will have priority in choosing dorms the following semester, which also serves as an incentive for students. The entire school has ten dormitory buildings in total: six for boys and four for girls.

How are boarding students managed on weekends, and what activities are available?

Admissions Officer:
We have a very comprehensive system for managing students' weekends. Webb does not schedule any classes on weekends, allowing students to manage their time freely. Webb is next to Hollywood, and on weekends, school staff will take students to town for shopping, dining, entertainment, and more, offering many choices.
Webb has its own paleontology museum, so each semester, students are arranged to go on long trips to collect biological specimens. Students interested in biology will not be disappointed.
In addition to many off-campus activities, there are also many on-campus activities, competitions, etc. Whether students want to go off-campus or stay on-campus, they can have a rich and colorful weekend.

Your school has many clubs and extracurricular activities. Do you have any good advice on choosing among these extracurricular activities?

Admissions Officer:
One unique aspect of our school is that we require students to choose and participate in a sport every semester. There are different options for different seasons. When new students enroll, an adviser will be available to help and guide them in choosing suitable extracurricular activities and clubs. Advisers meet with students weekly for discussion and exchange, thus providing very targeted and sound advice. The school offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities, including swimming, basketball, and volleyball. These are also divided by different levels. If a student has no prior experience but is very willing to try, they can start from the beginner level. If some students already have a certain foundation, we tailor our teaching to their current level, helping them achieve deeper learning and improvement.

Your school combines a boys' school and a girls' school. Grade 9 boys and girls have separate classes, and only in Grade 10 do they study together. How are students in Grade 9 and Grade 10 managed then?

Admissions Officer:
Although it's a combined boys' and girls' school, when you walk around the campus, you don't feel like we are two separate campuses for boys and girls, but rather one whole. The only difference is that Grade 9 boys and girls are taught separately. Therefore, we not only possess the advantages of single-sex schools (Grade 9 boys and girls have separate classes, allowing for a more targeted curriculum, but this separation is only academic; at other times, they are managed according to a co-educational model). So, after the merger of the boys' and girls' schools, the cultivation of leadership and competitive spirit has been strengthened. Although both the boys' and girls' schools maintain their respective traditions, they have already formed a unified entity.

Webb Through the Eyes of an Admissions Officer (Part 6):
Performing arts are very popular and strong at Webb Schools, and the school tries to involve as many students as possible. Regarding sports, the school requires students to participate in at least one sport per academic year. We divide the year into three seasons. If you've played a sport before, that's great, you can continue to excel; if you haven't, that's fine too, we encourage students to try new sports.

At Webb, we offer 15 different categories of sports, with 42 sports teams catering to different age groups. So, sports teams are also leveled; if you have no prior experience, you can start as a beginner, and if you already have a foundation, you can join a more advanced team. We once again thank our excellent geographical location, which allows us to leverage Los Angeles, and the school organizes many outdoor activities, at least 50 times a year, such as trips to the Concert Hall, Santa Monica Pier, rock climbing in Apple Valley, and so on.

Webb in the Eyes of an Admissions Officer (Part 5):
We offer 29 Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Additionally, we have several high-level courses designed by our school faculty with the assistance of Stanford University. These courses not only benefit students when applying for undergraduate programs but, more importantly, cultivate practical skills and methods. At Webb Schools, we do not separate English and History; instead, we integrate these two subjects into a single Humanities course, allowing students to learn across disciplines. The school also offers advanced science and mathematics courses to meet students' needs.

At Webb Schools, we don't just expect students to immerse themselves in academics. The school also organizes many activities. From Monday to Friday, 3-5 PM is dedicated to students' extracurricular activities. There are many activities for students to choose from, such as the Robotics Club and the Debate Club. Furthermore, we require students to participate in performing arts, so after the afternoon extracurricular activities conclude, the school also offers many options such as drama, dance, and orchestral performances to students.

Webb in the eyes of Admissions (Part 4):
Our school is located in the small town of Claremont, which has a population of only 38,000. People always say our town is a place rich in trees and PhDs, because Claremont is the only town in the entire U.S. that is home to five liberal arts colleges ranked among the top 50 in the nation. Therefore, our school fully leverages this advantage by organizing our students to attend lectures at Claremont College, and some distinctive courses are personally taught by professors from Claremont College. For example, the advanced computer science courses are taught by top college professors. This means our students not only receive excellent educational resources within our campus but also benefit greatly from the resources of local universities to enrich their learning experience.

Webb in the Eyes of an Admissions Officer (Part 3):
Our school is also the only secondary school in the world with a paleontology base. The school's Raymond M. Alf Museum is very famous. This paleontology museum at our school was founded by the school's biology expert who has always been passionate about finding fossils. Every year, the school organizes students to go out for expeditions and collections, including searching for fossils. Finding them brings a great sense of accomplishment. To date, there are as many as 175,000 exhibits displayed in the school's museum. 95% of these collections were found by the faculty and students of Webb Schools. This is indeed a school tradition, and students have always been very enthusiastic about this activity. Our school's geographical location is also worth mentioning. We are located 60 miles east of Los Angeles, so we can fully utilize Los Angeles' resources for our students. Even some of the school's extracurricular activities can leverage Los Angeles' resources, and we have also established a multicultural learning laboratory in LA.

Webb in the Eyes of an Admissions Officer (Part 2):
Admissions Officer:
The school has very strong academic capabilities, with 89% of its teachers being senior educators. Therefore, Webb students not only receive instruction from the most excellent teachers in class, but these teachers are also very knowledgeable about students' future undergraduate applications and can provide excellent guidance. Webb Schools is also the only institution in the U.S. that connects students from single-sex schools to share campus facilities and is managed under co-educational rules.

I previously shared why our school transitioned from the original Webb School (a boys' school) to Webb Schools (a co-educational institution). This is because we merged two schools. However, for the first two years, specifically 9th and 10th grades, boys and girls attend separate classes. During these two years, students experience a single-sex classroom model because the thinking patterns and learning styles of boys and girls are quite different during this crucial period. We believe that separate instruction during these two years yields better results. Once students reach 11th and 12th grades, boys and girls will attend mixed classes for more advanced courses. The advantage of this is that students at Webb Schools get to experience both single-sex and co-educational models over their four years of high school, thus benefiting greatly.

Webb in the Eyes of an Admissions Officer (Part 1):
Admissions Officer:
Our school was founded in 1922, in sunny Southern California, where there are 300 days of ample sunshine per year on average, and the average temperature is 25 degrees Celsius. When the school was first established, it was an all-boys school and remained so for several decades until 1981, when we opened Vivian Webb, admitting girls. This is why our school is now known as Webb Schools, because it is essentially two schools on the same campus, sharing facilities.
Our school has a total of 410 students, 206 boys and 204 girls. International students account for 21%, and students of color account for 40%. Students come from 10 states in the U.S. and 15 countries and regions. Our school is a boarding school, but we also have day students. 60% of students are boarders, and 88% of teachers live on campus. This is very important because our teachers are not only instructors who impart knowledge in the classroom, but also participate in off-class activities, including dormitory management, coaching student extracurricular activities, and participating in clubs. The average class size is 13 students, and the student-to-teacher ratio is 6:1. Therefore, teachers pay close attention to students and know each student very well. Our Webb students are very fortunate because they have a large group of excellent teachers who can accompany them for four years, helping them grow and succeed.

Webb offers an honors course in paleontology, divided into three parts: fossil acquisition and documentation, fossil preparation, and fossil utilization (display, teaching, or research). Students will learn the practical, ethical, and legal aspects of museum fossil collections, as well as how to collect and identify fossils. The course includes fieldwork where students learn field paleontology skills while collecting fossils that will become part of the museum's permanent collection. Additionally, an honors course in museum studies is offered, in which students work closely with the museum's paleontologists, focusing on original fossils from the Alf Museum collection. Students learn how to conduct and report research, how to read, evaluate, and critique scientific papers, how to collect and interpret original scientific data, and how to carry out their own original research projects. In the final project, students review relevant paleontological literature, gather and organize data, and write a formal scientific report on fossils from the Alf Museum collection.

Webb has established an innovative gender education model. The school previously engaged in discussions and exchanges with experts on gender issues. Their conclusion is that single-sex school education allows students to explore their own gender, and what gender means to us or to them, in a more comfortable and relatively targeted environment. It teaches students how to respect and appreciate, enhances self-confidence, and cultivates students' independence, critical thinking skills, and habits of thought. Therefore, they are very confident in establishing such an education model.

In a nutshell: Don't go. Tuition is high, facilities are poor, too many activities, too distracting.

Webb's educational philosophy adheres to the principle of 'learning by doing,' advocating for students to learn through practice. Students can choose advanced honors courses, AP courses, and Advanced Studies courses. The Advanced Studies program is similar to, yet transcends, AP courses, designed by Webb's teachers to meet students' deep learning needs. This curriculum aligns with the latest academic research and emphasizes establishing connections between disciplines. In Advanced Studies courses in fields such as paleontology, anatomy, physiology, and organic chemistry, students can utilize cutting-edge laboratory technology and equipment to learn science. In the humanities, students will engage in in-depth academic research on topics such as ethics, modern global affairs, and Los Angeles literature. In Advanced Studies courses for mathematics and foreign languages, students will learn linear algebra, statistics, and topics related to global literature and film.
