Program Overview
PALEONTOLOGY
Students will be immersed in the world of the research paleontologist as they learn the latest methods and technologies for reconstructing our prehistoric world. The Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology at The Webb Schools is a one-of-a-kind science research institution: a nationally accredited museum housed on the school campus. With a collection of over 195,000 specimens, including rare discoveries spanning 500 million years of global history, the museum is a perfect site for students to dig into science and explore the fossil record. GLOBAL CHANGEMAKERS In many fields, young people are taking the lead in imagining and building more inclusive, fair and sustainable communities. Do you want to be one of them? The major political and social issues our world faces — including environmental protection, immigration, economic development and human rights — will affect everyone and cross national boundaries. Join peers from around the world in uncovering the complexity behind these issues. You will participate in games, debates, case studies and simulations that allow you to deliberate on and discuss the same issues that global community leaders confront. Interactive challenges and training in communication, critical thinking, teamwork, problem solving and empathy will help you develop the skills to make ethical decisions and advocate for change as a global changemaker. SCIENCE & ENGINEERING Learn how to ask probing scientific questions and design hands-on experiments. This course will guide students to think like scientists as they engage in research in our cutting-edge advanced science lab. From chemistry to neuroscience and robotics to marine biology, students will be immersed in real science. Students will use everything from Bunsen burners and beakers to circuit boards and microscopes to construct an understanding of how the world works. HOW TO BE CREATIVE Calling all designers, performers, artists, writers, and anyone eager to express their creativity! This program is designed to help you hone your artistic skills and bring your creative visions to life. Mornings will feature in-depth workshops where you'll explore a single artistic medium and engage in creative team challenges using a variety of design practices. Whether your interests lie in visual arts, theater and stagecraft, writing and producing, sound design, or costume and fashion design, you’ll have the opportunity to experiment across disciplines. In Webb’s Innovation Wing, you'll also learn to harness digital tools to bring your ideas to fruition. Afternoons offer studio time for collaboration on a multidisciplinary capstone performance, where you'll draw from all the creative skills developed during the session. At the end of the program, you'll showcase your work in a final performance. MEDICAL SCIENCE Through hands-on labs and practicums, students will explore fields in the medical and healthcare professions, including anatomy and physiology, neuroscience, molecular biology, biochemistry, psychology, mental health kinesthetics and sports medicine, bioethics and public health. Students will learn their way around a state-of-the-art lab facility, become familiar with surgical tools through a dissection, gain critical lifesaving skills through training in the basics of First Aid and deliberate on the privileges and responsibilities of caring for human life. |
