The Hill School was founded in 1851 by the Rev. Matthew Meigs as the Family Boarding School for Boys and Young Men. The School opened on May 1, 1851, enrolling 25 boys for the first year. The Family Boarding School was the first of its kind in America. According to John Chancellor’s The History of The Hill, “He [Meigs] wanted to stress that he was not founding still another academy, but a type of school quite new and rare in America. There is a tendency to think that the boys’ boarding school as we know it existed as long as there have been private schools. It has not. Most of the 12 to 15 schools generally considered the “core” group were established in the last half of the nineteenth century…Of this whole group of schools, The Hill was the first to be founded as a family boarding school

WRA is an independent coed boarding/day school of 430 students from 36 states and 40 countries. Its challenging curriculum features 40+ College Level courses, a 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio, and an average class size of 12. Graduates are admitted to selective colleges. Other features: 190-acre campus, 21,000 square-foot library, superb fine arts offerings, required daily athletics and more. We are the only school to offer Cancer Immunology and Synthetic Biology, two of our standout science programs that enable students to delve into advanced scientific studies thanks to our proximity to Cleveland's renowned healthcare institutions, as well as faculty and alumni partnerships and connections. The Pennington School is an independent coeducational school for students in grades 6 through 12, offering both day and boarding programs, with boarding beginning in 8th grade. Having welcomed international students since 1885, we offer ELL/ESL, a popular host family program that pairs international boarding students with local day families, and a full-time Director of International Students who facilitates airport transfers, I-20 applications, and other important logistical support. Founded in 1838, Pennington values both tradition and innovation, and is firmly rooted in a whole-student character development focusing on our core values: Honor, Virtue, and Humility. Georgetown Preparatory School is an independent, Jesuit college-preparatory school for young men. Founded in 1789, Prep is the nation's oldest Catholic boys' boarding and day school.
