而较高水平的SSAT(Upper Level)则适合於8至10年级的学生。

Another thing that I wanted to mention is that when you get to the States, if you have a Google account, you can sign up for Google Voice. Since you need to authenticate it when your daughter has a phone number, you can only do it when you are there. This service not only allows you to call via video, but you can call your daughter on her cell phone in case of emergencies. Please let me know if you need help on how to do that. It's a little complicated.

她可能還需要使用Excel(試算表)或PowerPoint(簡報)。

The acceptance rate is low for students applying to boarding schools from China. And the schools you are looking at are not easy to get into. Since boarding schools have a holistic approach in accepting students, you need to make sure that the school is a good fit for your child, which will raise the chances of being accepted. Also, depending on your child's profile, you might want to have your consultant add a few backup schools.

My daughter is currently in boarding school in Boston. Because we have a family health plan, we did not buy the school recommended insurance. That was a mistake! My daughter got sick and was sent to the hospital. However, many things were not covered by our insurance. Next year we will change and use the insurance company that the school recommends since that covers what students generally need.

Yes absolutely! Many of the participating host families are teachers and staff of the school. Find out more on registration day or talk to the Dean of Students.

In many boarding schools, students are required to participate in athletics. Athletics mean any type of sports, be it varsity, junior varsity or club. Varsity teams are the top teams of a particular sport. Junior varsity team members may in the future be elevated to varsity teams if they reach the varsity level. Club sports are for students who want to do sports but do not want to go to competitions/matches.
Even if a student only want to do club sports, he or she should still fill in the PIAA form.

The tuition for top independent boarding school in the US is generally around US45-52,000. Some schools, like Phillips Exeter Academy, have large endowments, and they will subsidize the students’ tuition. For example, the tuition at Exeter is US46,000, but the actual cost per student is closer to US55-60,000. The difference in tuition between day and boarding is generally around US10,000.
If you are looking to apply for financial aid or scholarship, you may not want to if you are not a US or Canadian citizen. Although many of the top schools are need blind (which means that they will accept the student before they decide whether to give money to subsidize the tuition), because of the bad economy, it will affect the acceptance rate of your child.
To factor in all the cost of going to a boarding school, it would be:
1. Tuition (room and board is included)
2. Pocket Money
3. Insurance
4. Transportation (plane ticket, buses to the airport, etc.)
5. Books (this should run around US1,000 per year, although I have found that it is generally more, closer to US2-3,000 per year as my children likes to buy books other than school books to read)
6. Room and board during holidays if your child doesn’t go back to China

First your child has to take the SSAT and TOEFL. Yes, it is possible to apply on your own, although I suggest that you talk to someone first before doing so. If you are interested, please send me his grades and I can give you some advice.

Recently, US colleges have become more familiar with the IB curriculum. Both the IB and the AP are evaluated similarly. Colleges are more interested in how a student has performed within the curriculum of their high school. For example, colleges would like to see a student excel in the harder classes at school, regardless of whether they are studying the IB or AP curriculum. However, the difference comes from getting credits for the courses. Some schools may give less credit for IB than AP since (a) the US colleges don’t know the IB system as well, and (b) students under AP may have more background knowledge that is required by a certain course.
