这两个名称基本上是同一个项目的不同叫法， 没有什么本质区别, 有些学校把短期的项目叫Travel program。 一般而言对学生没有国籍的限制。对于美高特别是寄宿学校， 比较有名的项目叫，School Year Abroad (SYA)， 着是由PA, PEA 和 St Paul's 作为创始校建立的国际交流项目， 可以一学年， 一学期， 也可以一个暑假。现在加入这个项目的学校有几十所， 但不同学校对这个学校的参与度不一样。
