确实是有学费在20万人民左右的学校。但是我们不建议您在12年级的时候转校。原因是:1.你在申请美国大学的时候，你的高三成绩不会被考虑其中（也不排除有的学校要求你提交第一个学习的成绩单）如果你想在新的学校提高你的GPA成绩，以我的经验这种可能性比较小的。第二，大部分美国学校，尤其是好的学校，不是非常愿意接受12年级的转校生。因为学生在一年之后就需要领到自己学校的毕业证书，很多美国学校不会这样做。

我们建议您从现在的学校顺利毕业。如果需要美国课堂学习经验，建议你在毕业之后留出一年时间好好利用，努力提高你的GPA成绩，参加在一些美国寄宿学校开设的研究生课程。或是考虑大学的入学申请。

Yes, there are schools where tuition is lower than 200,000 rmb. However, I do not recommend you to transfer from the current international school to another school as 12th grade. There are few reasons why. First, if your goal is to apply to US university, your senior transcript will not be reflected in the process of application (for some cases, you need to submit the first semester report card). If you plan to improve your GPA at the new school while thinking that would be beneficial to you, I would say there is very slim chance to do that. Second, not so many US schools, especially good schools, would like to receive students as seniors except some extraordinary cases. Receiving students as senior means that after one year, the school need to grand high
school diploma, and I doubt that US schools particularly like this idea.



I suggest that you would plan to graduate from the current school with a plan to apply US university. If you need American school experience, then you might want consider PG (post graduate program at top boarding schools). Some of American students use this program as well. You can improve your GPA and this year would be considered as a gap year which is often positively viewed by colleges. Or you might want to focus on university preparation at this time for selective US university while you are completing your study at the current school

Medical insurance in USA for international students is different from what you have in China and will be different from what American students have. Usually American students at the secondary schools have their health insurance under their family plan and international students should plan to buy insurance independently. Colleges and Universities offer more comprehensive health insurance plan to international students since they do have contract with big insurance company, however, the secondary schools in many cases do not offer this type of plan. From our past experience, I recommend you to prepare your child and send him to one of top schools in US, not to make him to reside with your relative. There are so many stories in which family relationship has gone sour because there have been cases of misunderstanding, miscommunication, and mistrust in this type of living environment although this all depends on individual cases. This is a kind of story I hear a lot. A student is a good student at the current Chinese high school, but somehow she decides to go abroad and to apply to some elite boarding schools. When he plans to apply, she all of sudden realizes that she lacks some serious preparations such as TOEFL, SSAT, and other stuff and that choices are limited. And she chooses to a school where she would not want to go in the beginning, but anyway have to go. And the story goes on.
My sincere advice is that he needs to plan a long term strategy, not just getting into a top boarding school. A long term goal of achieving solid education at an appropriate high school in USA while carefully planning for an elite university in two or three years. Your child should have this long term plan that make sure the student can get the best of his high school experience. Your child's application process should be based on this understanding and I am sure your child will receive benefit of this type of planning.

However, again, that is my personal opinion and an ultimate decision will be made by school admission office and their unique approach on admission. As you might know, RGN is a very unique school with Presbyterian heritage and historically has served the population in the specific areas. If you plan to go to an international school in China, you should first study about the school's curriculum. There are various types of international schools in China. Some uses IB curriculum which is favored by European Universities (particularly British or Australian Universities), and other schools use American curriculum which also has variety based on their different religious values and educational philosophy. If you want to apply to top universities in US, I would recommend you to apply international schools with American curriculum. That is an issue of familiarity and my personal opinion.

If your daughter applies a boarding school, especially an elite boarding school in USA, it seems a little late for application. And please understand that an elite boarding look for a student with strong test scores such as TOEFL (100 out of 120) and 90% or more from SSAT and with strong GPA from the current school. Since an elite boarding school tends not to offer ESL, your daughter should have SLEP test is no longer administered and currently Junior TOEFL become more reliable criteria for student's adequacy for language preparedness. It means your daughter's SLEP test score will not be very useful to an elite boarding school in general without the above credentials at this time.
However, your daughter thinks other schools beyond an elite boarding school, she can still have some choices with current stats. Please contact a reliable consultant for further discussion.

However, in our perspective, what your daughter needs is a long term plan, which is to go to one of top universities. TP is located probably north of New York City (probably one hour or more depending the traffic condition) and all boys boarding school. It is a religious school, episcopal school, which usually has a very strong academic program. TP is not like top boarding school such as Middlesex or Deerfield in terms of academic strength, but tries to embrace all different learning styles. That in general is a good thing for international students because the school has more tolerance with cultural, language, or learning diversity. Average SAT score of graduating seniors are somewhat around 1800. Probably about 5-7% of seniors would be able to go to IVY universities. That is my estimate, very subjective.

There are quite few boarding schools that offer summer credit course for US history. You can check each boarding school website to find out. The best way for you is to use google or go into the website of boarding school:TABS to find the list of boarding schools. That is a start.

However, before enrolling summer course, one important thing to remember is that a student should consult with the school whether or not the school will accept the credit for US history course that student will take during summer. Often the current school does not like this idea of finishing early.

The number of chinese students at American high schools has dramatically increased in recent years and this trend will continue in coming years as well. Finding a school where few chinese students study, especially for F-1 visa holding international students, is a challenging task. Your focus should be to find a school that provides a better academic support and care for international students, especially for your daughter. If the school has a high sucess rate for sending their graduates to top universities in the States, then it would be better. To get accepted to that type of high school requires a serious preparation. High GPA, high test scores such as TOEFL/ SSAT that prove your child's academic readiness and intelligence, and student's good personality that would fit to a particular school are some of requirments. Junior TOEFL was a recent development from ESL and almost all of boarding schools now understand how they interpret the scores when students send scores to them. So my recommendation is to take either or both if you can as soon as possible.
Please do not delay any application because you do not have TOEFL scores. Just complete application as soon as possible and start to communicate with schools that you applied and update them with new information in the process of application. They will appreciate you.

Usually elite boarding schools, acceptance in spring is not allowed. Even though I need to contact Wyoming seminary, this should be the case. Wyoming recently gains strong popularity among Chinese students. There is heavy competition among Chinese students. Wyoming has a great acceptance rate to top university as well; usually 10% graduating seniors are accepted to IVY or most selective universities. Their philosophy of guidance office is not just to send graduates to IVY, but the right schools that student will succeed. Wyoming does not like high school rank system. However, Wyoming can be easily one of best schools in east coast of USA.
First, you need to find which schools can accept you for January term. As I mentioned, not all schools will accept. Also, it is the season for the fall 2013, and it means that you are somewhat late for the spring application, and rather time to prepare for the fall.

Nevertheless, we can do some research for you and for your long term academic plan. Going to a high school is not an ultimate goal. He can go to one of good/better public schools or to private day schools or boarding schools. while public schools requires your residence where the school is located for entering school, private school, especially elite private school requires what the top boarding schools requires, although admission criteria might be different depending on the mission and character of the schools.
If your son is aiming one of top universities in us, I recommend for him to apply one of top private schools which has higher success rate of sending their graduates to go the top universities in USA. In order to get accepted to this type of school, your son needs good preparation and strategies for admission.
If your son goes by himself to a high school, options are limited. Your son should apply to boarding schools or to private elite day schools with good student management program or guardianship program that focuses on helping students succeed at schools.

He can go to one of good/better public schools or to private day schools or boarding schools. while public schools requires your residence where the school is located for entering school, private school, especially elite private school requires what the top boarding schools requires, although admission criteria might be different depending on the mission and character of the schools.
If your son is aiming one of top universities in us, I recommend for him to apply one of top private schools which has higher success rate of sending their graduates to go the top universities in USA. In order to get accepted to this type of school, your son needs good preparation and strategies for admission.
If your son goes by himself to a high school, options are limited. Your son should apply to boarding schools or to private elite day schools with good student management program or guardianship program that focuses on helping students succeed at schools.

This is an interesting situation. The student has a green card, which means he does not have any limit to apply schools. If your future academic plan for your son is to send him to one of top universities, this is the right time to start preparation.
I think your son’s case is a little different from others, I need to have more information such as your son’s current school records, possible locations for school, parent’s stay with the student in USA (in this case, good public school or private day school would be the option), and others. I strongly recommend you to visit some of good professionals who might be able to consider all options and give you the best possible advice.

In order to apply top private schools, your daughter should have excellent TOEFL score (usually around 100 out of 120) and SSAT about 90%. And you daughter needs these score before January 2013. Perhaps this might be a big challenge for your daughter. Since deadline is approaching, you should prepare for application as soon as possible

For checking the schools, you can go to the school website directly since school website is pretty clear about admission criteria. Or you can call to the school and ask questions directly. Each school has different admission criteria. Or you can work with someone or respected professionals to work on behalf of your daughter. Sometime that is easier and clear. Even you can ask these people to call right on that spot for you.

Also, certainly you can apply by yourself. Nevertheless, it would take a lot time and energy. From my experience, typically more than 80% applicants use professional assistance, about 20 % of applicants would apply directly. If you have a good, effective ethical professional, the success rate would be higher.

I assume that your daughter plans to repeat 9th grade in an American high school. In this case I expect that your daughter’s TOEFL score will probably increase with some training and your daughter will mentally prepare for the next year. It seems that you prefer to send your child to a girl’s school with less Chinese students.

Two things to consider. There are very few schools with few Chinese students, especially boarding schools. Top boarding schools will limit the number of Chinese students at the school, so usually limited number of Chinese students such as Middlesex or Deerfield. Less known boarding schools would have more Chinese students and many of Catholic schools tend to have more Chinese students.

Two schools that you mentioned are schools with a good reputation and are not big schools. I feel that these schools are some room for Chinese students with good educational environment. These schools are called ‘independent catholic schools’ which are somewhat academically better. I think your daughter with proper preparation; she would be able to accept. Hi,
You have basically two problems. First, it is a very difficult school to get in. The reason is that there is a very limited number to be accepted to 11th grade, probably 1 or 2, if there is any space and if you don't have SSAT score. Usually hotchkiss requires SSAT over 90% from applicants for 9th grade. Your TOEFL score is pretty good but without SSAT score, they won't even consider.
Secondly since the academic curriculum at Hotchkiss for the 11th is very demanding, almost like college level introduction classes, the school rarely considers an international student to come in for the 11th grade. They know international student who come late like you will suffer.
My recommendation is first to consider other schools which are academic challenging yet with flexible admission criteria and start to study there, or to complete high school in China while preparing to apply one of the top American universities. If you goal is ultimately going to one of top universities, then you can have couple options. Please contact me for more discussion regarding your academic plan in USA.

申请10年级有很多优势,首先你的孩子将会有更多的时间来为上大学做准备。通常,当学生首次到达美国的学校,他们需要一个或两个学期去适应新的环境,然后跟学校证明他们的能力，所以需要多点时间，如果有多一年充裕的时间就更好了，例如在11年级结业的那个暑假，就要可以开始准备申请大学的材料以及准备托福和SAT考试, 再说多一个学年就等于多一个暑假，还可以利用这个暑期来建立学生履历如小区志愿者服务，企业实习等校外活动增添申请书的多元化。

所以,如果你的儿子一开始就从11年级学生就读,他可能不会有足够的时间准备好大学。

Those of these five schools all send over 35% of their senior class to IVY, MIT, or Stanford University. Even when Phillips Exeter Academy (one of the most famous and best New England Boarding School) sends 30% of their senior class to IVY league universities. Out of these 5 schools, Trinity school has the highest, 42%, percentage of sending students to IVY schools.
